Libe Taube, née Marczak, born 26 Apr. 1891, deported 6 Dec. 1941 to Riga,
Simon Taube, born 28 Nov. 1896, date of death 4 Apr. 1942 in Buchenwald concentration camp

Hammer Landstraße 219

Libe Taube, née Marczak, born on 26 Apr. 1891 in Dobra, was married to Moritz Skorupa in her first marriage. She had three children with him, Max, born on 5 May 1913, Jacob, born on 28 Jan. 1915, and Gertrud, born on 18 Jan. 1917. She brought these children into her marriage with Simon Taube. Simon Taube was born on 28 Nov. 1896 in Koniecpol. Since Simon Taube’s parents, Abraham and Chai, née Wolfowitsch, came from Poland, he was considered stateless. In 1932 Simon and Libe Taube joined the German-Israelite Community in Hamburg. Simon Taube’s income as a merchant and traveling salesman was very meager. That improved in 1933-1934 and grew until 1938.

However the couple’s situation deteriorated drastically in 1939 when Simon Taube lost his job. He then performed "compulsory labor” as a digger for around 150 RM a month until Dec. After that, again left with no income, the couple moved to Eiffestraße 48.

Little is known about Libe Taube’s children. Jacob and his father Moritz immigrated to Australia.

Early in 1940, Simon Taube was arrested – the reason for his arrest is not known – and taken to Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp. On 15 Feb. 1940 he was moved to Dachau concentration camp and from there to Buchenwald concentration camp. According to the operations log at Dachau concentration camp, several ulcerated toes were amputated from his right foot in Feb. 1941. Simon Taube died in Buchenwald on 4 Apr. 1942. His urn was interred at the Ohlsdorf Jewish Cemetery on 26 July 1942. By that time his wife had already been deported. Libe Taube had moved to Lehmweg 45 and was on the transport to Riga on 6 Dec. 1941. We do not know the last time when Simon and Libe Taube had word from each other.
