Herrenweide 23

Max Simons became a member of the Jewish Community in Mar. 1935. At this time, he lived with his second wife Szajudla on Pinnasberg. Only little is known about his first wife, just the fact that she was Protestant. Szajudla joined the Hamburg Jewish Community in Feb. 1936. Before that, she had been assessed for taxes in Altona. She worked as a housekeeper. Before marrying Max Simons in 1937, she was divorced from her first husband, Albert Simons. The available sources reveal nothing about whether Albert was related to Max Simons. In Feb. 1938, the couple had a son, Jacob. The family moved to Herrenweide 23. In Feb. 1940, Szajudla Simons informed the Jewish Community that her husband had moved abroad. He had emigrated to the Netherlands. When Szajudla and her son Jakob were deported to Riga-Jungfernhof, Jakob was three years old.

In the Netherlands, Max Simons was forced to live in the Westerbork transit camp. He was then deported to the Sobibor extermination camp and murdered there a few days after his arrival.
