Last home address: Steindamm 20

Karl Sander was a trained butcher and member of the Hamburg Jewish Community until he left it in 1932. His parents were David and Karoline Sander, née Berich. His wife Gertrud was not Jewish. From the late 1920s he lived at various addresses in St. Georg. In 1934 he temporarily moved to Kastanienallee before returning to St. Georg in 1937, this time to Steindamm. In 1939 he was arrested for unknown reasons and first held at Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp and ultimately sent to Bremen-Oslebshausen Penitentiary, probably due to sentencing. In 1943 he was at Fuhlsbüttel Prison from where he was deported to Auschwitz extermination camp on 14 Jan. 1943. He perished there a little over one month later.
