The Jewish couple Johanna and Max Pinkus lived in Dresden with their sons, Herbert and Günther, until the mother and sons moved to Hamburg in February 1939. The father, about whom nothing more is known, died in August 1937. What drew the widow Johanna to the Hansa City, with her nearly grown sons, is not known. From 1939, they lived at Lange Reihe 111, at the home of Ruth Körbchen, who was deported to the Lodz ghetto on 25 October 1941. Two weeks later, Johanna Pinkus and her two sons were deported to Minsk in White Russia; they were classified as missing; the deportation list noted that the mother voluntarily reported for the mass transport, thereby sharing the fate of her sons.

For Johanna and her son Günther commemorative stones lie on the hill at their last address Lange Reihe 111; another stone will be placed in the same location for Herbert Pinkus.
