The milker and later dockworker Helmuth Sander was born in Hamburg. In 1935 he was sentenced to seven plus six months in prison for embezzlement and robbery.

In 1936 at the public lavatory on Poststraße, Sander had met the retired bank clerk Heinrich Buck (born 8 Feb. 1876 in Hamburg, deported 6 Dec. 1941 to Riga, stumbling stone at Telemannstraße 39 in Eimsbüttel). The two performed "indecent acts” in Buck’s apartment, for which Buck paid Sander.

After his arrest, Helmuth Sander was taken into police "protective custody” on 18 Jan. 1937 at Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp. On 12 Mar. that same year, he was transferred to Hamburg City Remand Prison. In Oct. 1937, the Hamburg District Court sentenced him to a six-year prison sentence and disenfranchised him for five years for "unnatural sex acts”.

He served his sentence in Fuhlsbüttel Prison, in Bremen-Oslebshausen Prison and again at Fuhlsbüttel Prison before he was moved to Lingen prison camp in Ems on 7 Nov. 1938.

From 20 Dec. 1940 he was back at Hamburg City Remand Prison for hearings. From there he was taken to Celle Penitentiary (as of 22 Aug. 1941). His sentence was to end on 23 Jan. 1943. In Feb. 1943 Helmuth Sander was admitted to Neuengamme concentration camp, registered under the prisoner number 16496, where he died on 16 Mar. 1944.
