Jenny Brager, née. Steinfeld, born on 10 Nov. 1874 in Hamburg, deported on 15 Dec. 1941 from Hannover to Riga
Jenny Brager was born as daughter of Rudolf and Betty Steinfeld in Hamburg. Her husband David, born in 1876, died in spring 1930. He owned a company at Elbstraße which was operating at one point under the name of "real estate business” and elsewhere was associated with "uniforms”. He was a member of the funeral sodality of the German-Israelitic Community Hamburg (DIGH, Deutsch-Israelitische Gemeinde Hamburg). In 1930, Isestraße 7 is registered as the private address in the directory of the City of Hamburg for the first time.
It is not clear whether the Bragers moved to Isestraße in that year and whether they had been living in the house of the company before that. From 1930 to 1936 Jenny Brager lived at Isestraße 7 as a widow. She is most likely to have been David Brager’s second wife because Ernst Brager, born in 1896, submitted her Pages of Testimony at Yad Vashem as her stepson. In 1902 her son James was born; no information about him is known. The daughter Resie died in 1935 aged almost 29.
In March 1936 Jenny Brager’s address was Bornstraße 28. Jenny Brager and the company David Brager at Elbstraße 47 were registered in the directory of the City of Hamburg until 1937. Then Jenny Brager moved to Hanover; the year is not known. From there she was deported to Riga; nine days later than the Jews from Hamburg with their Rabbi Carlebach.
