Harald Ehrmann, born on 14 Apr. 1922, deported on 8 Nov. 1941 to Minsk
Harald Ehrmann was still an apprentice when he was deported from Hamburg to Minsk on 8 Nov. 1941. He had one brother, Martin (named after the grandfather on his father’s side), who was 16 years his senior. Martin was the only one in his family to succeed in emigrating to Israel. His daughter subsequently deposited information about the family at the memorial in Yad Vashem/Jerusalem.
Until the time of his deportation to Minsk, where Harald died at the age of 20, he lived with his parents, Julius and Alma Ehrmann.
Harald’s mother was a homemaker, his father, according to the Jewish religious tax (Kultussteuer) file card of the Jewish Community, a "travelling salesman” ("Reisender”), i.e. a (commercial) agent. According to information provided by his granddaughter, however, he had passed the examination for master painter. Both parents were deported to Auschwitz on 11 July 1942, which means they continued to live in Germany for nearly another year after their son’s deportation, also having to move once more.
Since Harald, aged 20, was fit to work, one can assume that he survived in the Minsk Ghetto for some time. It is not known when and how he died there.
