Hansastraße 21
Adolf Coutinho was the son of Solms and Louise Coutinho, née Aronson. He had a degree in agriculture and later changed to the tobacco industry. In 1927 he married Anna-Elisabeth Schnell who came from Bremen and was not Jewish. They had two sons together. A charge of alleged "racial defilement” in 1938 ended with him being sentenced to several years in prison. His wife feigned divorce in 1941 to protect herself and her children from further persecution, according to her later explanation. Anna-Elisabeth Coutinho and her sons Solms (born in 1928) and Bernt (born in 1929) survived the Holocaust. Adolf Coutinho was deported to Theresienstadt ghetto on 15 July 1942 and on 28 Sept. 1944 deported onward to the Auschwitz extermination camp where he was killed.
