Alexander Grünberg, born 4 Aug. 1885 in Eydtkuhnen, Eastern Prussia, sent to the Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp 1943, deported 22 April 1943 to Auschwitz, murdered there 20 Sep. 1943
Alexander Grünberg was of Jewish heritage, but was listed as Protestant in his tax records with the Jewish Community. He was probably forced to become a member of the Jewsih Religious Association in 1940. His wife was Protestant. Alexander Grünberg did not pay church taxes. He was arrested on 1 March 1943 while visiting Rudolf Hamburger (see: Moser). Rudolf Hamburger was on a list of Jews in mixed marriages who were suspected of sabotage in the workplace, compiled by Willibald Schallert, who organized the forced labor assignments of Jews in Hamburg. Alexander Grünberg was not on this list, but was arrested along with Hamburger because he was visiting Hamburger when the police arrived to arrest him. After spending seven weeks in the Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp, he was transferred to Auschwitz and murdered.
