Leopold Bielefeld, born 9 July 1894 in Hamburg, deported 8 Nov. 1941 to Minsk, died there

Grindelhof 83

We know very little about Leopold Bielefeld; most of the information we have is from his tax records with the Jewish Community. His parents were Hermann and Jeannette Bielefeld. Leopold initially worked as a traveling salesman, later as a salesclerk and finally with the Hamburg Jewish Cultural Association, although we don’t know what he did there. He never married and lived at various addresses, sometimes as a boarder. A few addresses in the records can be made out - Raboisen 94, Hütten, Peterstraße 33, Zeughausmarkt - but it remains unclear when he lived where. The last address listed is at the Brociner residence at Grindelallee 83, but this must be a mistake as there were no tenants named Brociner at that address at that time. The address books do list, however, an Erna Brociner (see below) and her daughter Valentina at Grindelhof 83. In addition to Leopold Bielefeld, Kurt and Gertrud Ehrenberg (see Grindelallee 64) and their young daughters Inge and Lotte also lived in the apartment. On 8 Nov. 1941 Leopold Bielefeld and Kurt Ehrenberg were deported to the Minsk Ghetto, where both of them died.

Ten days later, on 18 Nov. 1941, Erna and Valentina Brociner and Gertrud, Inge, and Lotte Ehrenberg were also deported to the Minsk Ghetto. None of the five survived.
