Margarete Blitz, born on 4 Sept. 1893, deported on 25 Oct. 1941 to Lodz
Seriously ailing as well as nearly deaf and unable to speak, Margarete Blitz was deported at the age of just 48 years to Lodz on 25 Oct. 1941. She lived in the Lodz Ghetto ("Getto ‘Litzmannstadt’”) temporarily at Tizianstraße 2/29 – as indicated by the registry list.
Margarete Blitz, born on 4 Sept. 1893 in Berlin, the only child of Emilie Blitz, moved to Hamburg about 1920 to live with her mother, born on 3 May 1858, at Schlachterstraße 40. From her pay as a social work assistant, she also supported her mother. After her mother’s death, she lived in Berlin again.
Margarete Blitz is listed in the 2006 German Memorial Book with a "former married name (divorced) of Albreghs.” Nothing is known about her marriage. When she became unfit for work in 1935, she received a small salary earners’ pension. In Jan. 1936, she returned to Hamburg (Steinbeckerstraße 15) and later moved in with Robert and Mathilde Hofmann who lived at Marienthaler Straße 73. Probably because of her disability, Margarete Blitz already changed her place of residence to the Warburg-Stift, a residential home at Bundesstraße 43, where the deportation order reached her.
