Max Friedrich Engler trained as a blacksmith and worked as a journeyman. The Hamburg Address Books of the 1930s list his name only once – in 1935, at Sillemstraße 78/II.

He was a member of the German Metal Workers’ Union (DMV) and the German Communist Party (KPD). He was a party functionary, and as such was arrested and charged with "conspiracy to commit high treason.”

Max Friedrich Engler was murdered on 27 February 1935 at the Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp.

No information about his life or death exists, other than a reference in the catalogue of the Hamburg City Archive to the document number 213-9 OJs 343/35 Held u. Gen, but the document was not found.
