Verhaftet 1936 und 1938
KZ Fuhlsbüttel
Flucht in den Tod
13.07.1938

Wilhelm Karl Ferdinand Jastram, born on 21 June 1895, imprisoned from 1936 to 1937, and in 1938, suicide on 13 July 1938 in the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp

Vogteiweg, across from house no. 11

Wilhelm Jastram is among a group of homosexuals concerning whose fate only a police file about "unnatural deaths” contains any clues at all. Merely the file memo "K.24” (K 24 Office of the Criminal Investigation Department – Kriminalkommissariat 24, responsible for "combating homosexuality”), points to his homosexual tendencies. The criminal justice file that could have provided information regarding his biography was destroyed.

The technical draughtsman Wilhelm Jastram was born on 21 June 1895 in Altona near Eldena in Mecklenburg. According to the prisoner file card, on 14 Sept. 1936, the Hamburg Regional Court (Landgericht) sentenced him for "unnatural sexual offenses” ("widernatürliche Unzucht”) to one year in prison, which her served from 18 Sept. 1936 to 30 July 1937 in the Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel men’s prison. Prior to that, he had been imprisoned in the Holstenglacis pretrial detention facility since 31 July 1936, where he was initially classified in the category of "sex offender.” After another arrest, which led to his detention in the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp starting on 7 July 1938, Wilhelm Jastram hanged himself in his cell on 13 July 1938.

Since Wilhelm Jastram’s last residence of his own choosing was with his sister at Vogteiweg 8 in Barmbek-Süd, a Stolperstein placed there serves to commemorate his fate. The inscription engraved in the brass plate reads "flight to death.”
