Alex Kritzkaja, born on 15.11.1944 in Hamburg, died on 24.1.1945

Essener Straße 54 (formerly camp Tannenkoppel, Weg 4, also called "Tarpenbek = Forced labor camp of the armaments industry in Hamburg Langenhorn)

Alex Kritzkaja was born in Hamburg on November 15, 1944. His mother Olga Kritzkaja, born on March 15, 1922 in Baranowitschi/Poland (today Belarus), was of Roman Catholic faith and single. Deported from her homeland, she had to perform forced labor for Hanseatische Kettenwerk GmbH (HAK) in Hamburg-Langenhorn since September 14, 1943. She was housed in the Tannenkoppel camp, Weg 4.

On the day of the birth of her twins, Olga Kritzkaja was admitted to the women’s hospital Frauenklinik Finkenau, Hamburg-Uhlenhorst. After giving birth, she spent eight days in the hospital with her twins Anna and Alex. On November 23, 1944, she returned with them to the Tannenkoppel camp. The twins had to spend their lives in this forced labor camp; for Alex, the second-born, it was only a few weeks there, with completely inadequate nutrition and living conditions.

On January 24, 1945, at 7:00 p.m., he died in the Children's Hospital Rothenburgsort, Dept. Wohldorf-Ohlstedt, Bredenbeckstraße 44, called "Olgaheim". The hospital's death notice lists "twin birth, severe nutritional disorder" as the cause of death and Petersen as the signing physician.
Alex was 2 months and 9 days old.

Fourteen days after his death, his burial took place on February 7, 1945 in the Ohlsdorf cemetery, grave location: Q 39, row 10, no. 6. His grave is no longer preserved. At the end of 1959 it was levelled together with at least 146 graves of children of forced laborers on area Q 39.

Alex's twin sister Anna probably survived the end of the war with her mother. Her fate is not yet known.

Explanations:
Ursula Petersen, physician, born on Febr. 7, 1912 Berlin, worked after the medical internship at the health department Güstrow and as an assistant physician since July 1939 in the children's hospital Rothenburgsort; she continued to practice as a pediatrician after the war. Preliminary investigations against her as well as against her colleagues did not lead to legal proceedings.
