Sigmund Tuschinska, born on 23.5.1944 in Hamburg, died on 3.9.1944

Essener Street 54
formerly camp Tannenkoppel, Weg 4, also called "Tarpenbek/ Forced labor camp of the armaments industry in Hamburg Langenhorn

Sigmund Tuschinska was born in Hamburg on May 23, 1944. His mother Josepha Tuschinska, born in Kosow on September 23, 1925, was of the Catholic faith and single. Deported from Poland, she first had to perform forced labor in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, presumably for Conz Elektrizitäts GmbH, a special factory for electrical machines and apparatus, or Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke AG. She was housed in the Möllnerstraße camp (today Notkestraße). In the seventh month of her pregnancy, she was transferred to the Tannenkoppel camp, Weg 4, in Hamburg-Langenhorn on March 14, 1944, and put to forced labor at Hanseatische Kettenwerk GmbH (HAK) or Deutsche Meßapparate GmbH (Messap).

On the day of the birth of her child, 18-year-old Josepha Tuschinska was admitted to Alsterdorf Hospital. Eight days after giving birth, on June 1, 1944, she and her son Sigmund were released back to the Tannenkoppel camp. There Sigmund had to spend the short time of his life. The nutritional and living conditions were completely inadequate for him.

Sigmund died there at 7:00 a.m. on September 3, 1944. In the death notice of the police chief, signed "i. A. Hillmann L. A.", according to "official investigations", without stating a doctor, the cause of death is given as "bronchopneumonia bronchitis" (pneumonia).

Sigmund was 3 months and 11 days old.

Nine days after his death, his burial took place on September 12, 1944 in the Ohlsdorf cemetery, grave location: Q 39, row 6, no. 27. His grave is no longer preserved. At the end of 1959 it was levelled together with at least 146 graves of children of forced laborers on area Q 39.

His mother Josepha Tuschinska was transferred a camp in Hamburg-Finkenwärder on February 3, 1945 for forced labor for Deutsche Werft AG.
