Kurt Baruch, born on 22 Dec. 1897 in Posen (Poznan), killed in the Neuengamme concentration camp on 9 June 1942

Kurt Baruch was a member of the Hamburg Jewish Community, unmarried, and a sales representative by occupation. The only facts known about the story of his persecution are that he was taken into pretrial detention for "racial defilement” ("Rassenschande”) in Hamburg in Mar. 1938. He then appears to have been sentenced to a prison term and committed to the Bremen-Oslebshausen penitentiary in Sept. of that same year. From there, he returned to Hamburg, but he was already sent to Berlin only a few days later to continue serving his sentence. From Berlin, he already returned in Feb. 1939 but was transported to Bremen-Oslebshausen again on 10 Mar. 1939. When he was released again is not known. According to an entry on his Jewish religious tax (Kultussteuer) card file (assessment for the year 1941) dated 30 Jan. 1942, he lived in the St. Georg quarter at Lange Reihe 83 as a subtenant of a widowed woman by the name of M. Riester. The date and circumstances of his committal to the Neuengamme concentration camp are not known, only the fact that he was killed there on 9 June 1942.
