Oskar Ide, born on 25 May 1921 in Hamburg, shot on 17 Apr. 1945 in Bergen/Norway

Marckmannstrasse 166 (Marckmannstrasse 168)

Prior to 1933, Oskar Ide belonged to the SAJ, the "Socialist Young Workers” (Sozialistische Arbeiterjugend). We do not know anything further about his political views or his involvement.

On 7 Apr. 1940, he volunteered for the German navy and was assigned to various naval training and reserve units, first to the 13th Kriegsstammabteilung based in Sassnitz. On 1 June 1940, he transferred to the 1st Company of the 1st Schiffsstammabteilung based in Kiel, and from 6 June 1940, he saw action as a member of the Marinestammabteilung Oslo on coastal protection duty off the Norwegian city of Bergen. On 1 Apr. 1941 he was promoted to Matrosengefreiter [a rank approx. equivalent to seaman 2nd class], one year later to Matrosenobergefreiter [a rank approx. equivalent to seaman 1st class]. On 9 Mar. 1943, he was awarded the "war badge for minesweepers, sub-chasers, and security units.” (Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-, U-Bootsjagd- und Sicherungsverbände).

Two years later, the court with jurisdiction over the Norwegian West Coast sentenced him to death by firing squad because of repeated "undermining of military strength” ("Wehrkraftzersetzung”). The sentence was executed on 17 Apr. 1945. Notice of his death was given to Records Office 1 (Standesamt I) in Berlin in Feb. 1950.
