Hohenzollernring 101

The graduate engineer from Thaleischweiler/Pirmasens in Rhineland-Palatinate, son of Isidor Rheinheimer and Henriette née Behn, lived in Altona and worked at the Menck & Hambrock dredger and construction machinery factory in Ottensen.

He had been a member of the Jewish community since 1925. His wife Helene Julia, née Sack, born in 1905, was non-Jewish. The couple had no children. From 1934 to 1942, the address book listed him in Altona-Ottensen with the residential address Hohenzollernring 101.

Like many Jewish men, he was arrested in 1938 during the November pogrom and spend time in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp from November 9 to December 21, 1938.

Alfred Rheinheimer last worked as a teacher in a Jewish educational nursery. From 1943 he lived at Grindelberg 7.

Initially still exempt from deportation due to his "mixed marriage" with a non-Jewish wife, he was denounced by one Adolf Carstens in 1944 and arrested. On the basis of a decree issued in the fall of 1942, which stipulated that prisons, penitentiaries and concentration camps in the German Reich were to be made "free of Jews," he was deported to Auschwitz and murdered there on August 16, 1944.
