Amalie Salomon, née Schönbach, born on 1 Mar. 1887 in Holzminden, deported on 6 Dec. 1941 to Riga

Amalie Salomon was born in Holzminden as the daughter of Jacob and Golda Schönbach.

When she moved to Isestrasse 67, she was already widowed. We have no information about her husband, Karl Theodor Salomon. In Feb. 1935, Amalie Salomon joined the Jewish Community in Berlin. Since October of that year, she lived in Berlin. Before moving to Isestrasse in Jan. 1937, she was registered with the authorities as a subtenant at four different addresses. She worked as an office aid and domestic help. Her income must have been very modest, being assessed for Jewish religious tax (Kultussteuer) in the Hamburg Community only since 1940, though merely paying a very small sum.

At Isestrasse 67, her daughter Gerda lived with her. She died in Oct. 1937, at the age of 25.

The young couple Kaethe and Herbert Cohn as well as Mathel and Denny Windmüller lived as subtenants with Amalie Salomon. The Cohns were deported to Minsk on 8 Nov. 1941, and one month later, Amalie Salomon had to set out for the assembly point for deportation to Riga.

After the war, her brother Alwin, who went by the name of Fairbrook in the USA, searched in vain for his sister.
