Rothenburgsort Children's Hospital

In the former Rothenburgsort Children's Hospital, the National Socialists implemented their "euthanasia program" from the early 1940s.
Hildegard Thevs was able to research 33 names of murdered children.

A plaque on the building has commemorated the more than 50 murdered babies and children since 1999:

In this building
between 1941 and 1945
more than 50 handicapped children were killed.
An expert committee classified them
as "unworthy life" and assigned them
to be killed in specialized children's wards.
The Hamburg health administration
was involved in this.
Hamburg medical officers supervised
the admission and killing of the children.
Doctors of the children's hospital
carried them out.
None of those involved
was prosecuted for this.

Peter Timm, born 16 Sept. 1939 in Hamburg, killed 6 Apr. 1943

Peter Timm was born in Sept. 1939, shortly after it became obligatory to report severe handicaps. His father was a baker, and his family lived in Eilbek.

Peter’s medical file was burned, presumably during the "fire storm” of July 1943. Investigations following the war turned up these approximate details: At the age of about three years, Peter was admitted to the Rothenburgsort Children’s Hospital with the diagnosis of "water on the brain” probably in autumn 1942 and taken into the young children’s ward under the care of Ursula Petersen. After an observation period of several months and permission from the "Reich Panel”, she gave him a lethal injection of phenobarbital. Peter died the night of 6 Apr. 1943, allegedly from tubercular meningitis.

His mother registered his death at the Rothenburgsort civil registry office.
