Kielortallee 23

Marianne Lange’s parents were Jesaias and Hanna, née Wolff, Rendsburg. She married Ferdinand Heinrich Carl Lange, the owner of the import-export company Carlos Lange & Co. at Grindelberg 10. The couple’s apartment was also in this building.

Marianne was widowed in 1923, and remained living in the apartment. She applied for a place at the Vaterstädtische Trust in May 1930, and was finally granted an apartment in the Rosenthal Home at Kielortallee 23 on 1 May 1935. She remained there until February 1939, when the Vaterstädtische Trust was "Aryanized” and she was forced to move out. She moved to the Warburg Trust at Bundesstraße 43, which had been designated a "Jews’ house.” She had to share the small apartment there with two other women. She and most of the other residents were deported to Theresienstadt, where she survived, despite the horrific conditions and her age, until May 1944. She was then sent to Auschwitz and murdered shortly after her arrival.
