After Meta Vorreuter’s husband Louis had died already in 1914, the childless widow lived from her inherited assets – first in Oderfeldstrasse, in a boarding house in Mittelweg and finally at Rothenbaumchaussee 73. When Hermann Göring an "atonement payment” of 1.2 billion reichsmarks on the Jews of Germany after the pogrom of November 1938, allegedly for the repair of the damages caused by the riots, she was forced to pay 10,000 RM. While her siblings had managed to emigrate to South Africa in time, Meta Vorreuter was served the deportation order at the age of 66. The rest of her assets approx. 26,000 RM, were confiscated to the benefit of the German Reich.
