Klara Drucker, already 80 years old when she was deported from Hamburg to Theresienstadt, was thus certainly one of the oldest residents of Hamburg to suffer this fate. At the time, she lived in the Jewish retirement home on Schäferkampsallee.

She was born as Klara Gutmann in 1862. Her parents were the men’s clothing dealer Moses Gutmann and his wife Sabine, née Brüssel. In 1888, Klara had married the merchant Simon Nachum Drucker of the same age, who, just like her father, was a men’s clothing dealer. At the time she got married, Klara lived with her parents at Kieler Strasse 85, her husband at Alter Steinweg 5.

Their daughter Margarete was born on 7 Mar. 1889. In those days, the family lived at Seilerstrasse 34. Margarete died already in July 1916 at the age of only 27. She remained unmarried. Simon Nachum Drucker survived his daughter, whose death he had reported to the records office, by only one year, dying at the age of 54 in 1917. Back then, he was staying at the Lübecker Hof Hotel, Kirchenallee 24. The couple probably lived apart. A clue to this circumstance can be found on the Jewish religious tax (Kultussteuer) file card.

Before Klara Drucker moved to Osterstrasse 18, she lived at Martinistrasse 91, presumably as a subtenant in each instance.
