ermordet am 2.2.1942

Siegfried Freundlich, born 18.1.1882 in Hamburg, deported to Lodz ghetto on 25.10.1941

Heinrich-Barth-Straße 14

Siegfried Freundlich, born January 18, 1882 in Hamburg was a musician. His parents were Bernhard Freundlich and Dina Freundlich, née Braunschild, in a second marriage (he was divorced from wife Henny Magdalena Marie née Mertens). He was a member of the Jewish community, but could pay the taxes since 1925, notice there: "unemployed" behind the year 1935 as well as "welfare January 1944", he then lived in Hamburg Jägerstraße 24 (St. Pauli).

Siegfried Freundlich was deported to the Lodz Ghetto on 25.10.1941.

Siegfried Freundlich is mentioned only very briefly in the restitution file (StaH 351-11, 15814) of his brother Wilhelm Freundlich (born Oct. 28, 1893 in Hamburg, book printer, deported July 19, 1942 to Theresienstadt, survivor).

Just like the other siblings Martin Freundlich (born May 22, 1885 in Hamburg, deported Nov. 8, 1941 to Minsk, declared dead), Leopold Freundlich (born July 23, 1886 in Hamburg, deported Oct. 25, 1941 to Lodz, declared dead), Jeanette Freundlich (born Oct. 19, 1873 in Marienwerder, deported June 23, 1943 to Theresienstadt, declared dead) and Martha Graetz, née Freundlich (born June 1, 1879 in Hamburg, declared dead in 1961). Due to the expired deadline (cut-off date April 1, 1958), an application for restitution for Wilhelm Freundlich's siblings was no longer accepted.

The siblings are commemorated by stumbling blocks at Peterstraße 33/Neustadt (Jeanette Freundlich), Alter Steinweg 13/Neustadt (Leopold Freundlich) and Eppendorfer Weg 54/Eimsbüttel (Martin Freundlich) (biographies of all three see www.stolpersteine-hamburg.de)
