Berthold Freundlich, born 10 Apr. 1889 in Berlin, died 19 Oct. 1942 in the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp
Berthold Freundlich was a member of the Hamburg Jewish Community. He was a waiter, and his last job was in "Hellmanns Gaststätten” in the Jewish Community Center on Hartungstraße. He had a non-Jewish wife named Louise, née Schulze, who was born in 1883 in Hamburg. In June 1938, in the wake of Aktion Arbeitsscheu Reich (Operation Reich Laziness), in which Jews with previous convictions, even the most trivial, were pinpointed, he was arrested and sent to the Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp. Later that same month he was sent to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, where he died after more than four years of suffering in October 1942.
